Welcome to the web site for professional Marine Engineers worldwide. Since 1999, we have been providing information and resource to professionals and novices, in the commercial marine world.
I welcome you to discover what marine engineers do, and explore their role in worldwide commercial shipping. You will find the "site navigation" menu at the top, and a "about the site" menu at the bottom. Enjoy your stay and feel free to drop me an email.

Martin - Marine Engineer and Webmaster
Feature - I am very please to present Retired Chief Engineer Verheijden's work on the Doxford opposed piston oil engine. The famous British engine conjures up memories in many engineer, but those engineers are quickly moving on, as does this history. The center piece of the new area, is a fascinating pictorial of the manufacturing process, and the machining skills that this process required. You will also find a gallery of damages; and detail drawings of various components along with videos and background on Sun Ship in the USA, and numerous supporting documents.
In this Update - The majority of the new stuff is in the Historical area, principally a whack of old engineering drawings; including a pretty nifty write up, and dissection, of the USCG icebreaker Mackinaw. You will also find about 25 new entries on the ongoing development timeline of the ship's prime mover.  Over in the Ship's Library you will find an excellent 2010 "state of shipping" report. Over in the Machinery section, a handy download - pocket reference for EMD 645 engines, and NK's guide on preventing "stupid" mistakes.
Quiet Summer - Like most of you - judging by the visitor stats - I have been too busy or the weathers been to nice to be on the computer much. Work has been steady, although that cannot be said for everyone, as shipping has been slow to warm up from the chilling effects of the recession. As fall approaches I hope you find the many new items on the site, and a growing community in the forum, engaging and interesting to read.
